Tribes is a program that focuses on developing children in a positive environment through teamwork. Rather than rules Tribes has agreements and the agreements in the Tribes Program are:
-
Attentive Listening:- We constantly tell children to listen, but do they know how to listen properly? This agreement focuses on how to listen and how to show people you're listening. Use your eyes, ears and heart.
-
Mutual Respect:- Tribes focusses on respecting others through listening and accepting ideas or suggesting alternate ways. It is very important to include everyone so they get an equal go.
-
Right to Pass:- Why force someone to participate in an activity they really don't want to? By giving someone the right to pass they can sit out a game or a certain activity without having to explain why. You can't however pass all the time.
-
No Put Downs:- As a part of Mutual Respect it is very important that we don't allow any put downs. If people are continually put down it doesn't a =llow a positive environment for them or anyone else.
-
Personal Best:- This is pretty self explanatory as we can't expect people to do better than there best, but the children must agree that they will always atempt to do their best.
For the Tribes process to work everyone in the class needs to agree and apply these agreements. Once they show that they can do this they will be placed into tribes where they can work as a team on various activities and have lots of fun.
